16" and 18" rear travel kit for Bronco 1980-1996

Most people that I have met tend to take the rear suspension for granted , probably because straight axle leaf spring setup at first glance is very simple. Take my word on it, when it comes to off road nothing is simple anymore ! If you can afford it a 3 link wishbone or 4 individual links with a coil over that is the ultimate. But that can be a lot of money and requires many days of intense fab work. Besides the old saying is this "a good working leaf spring rear will outperform a poorly designed 4 link"
I've seen a lot of broken rear springs from offroad abuse and figured out what caused a spring to break after an hour or so of hard running. It's the Gas Pedal man ! If all a leaf spring had to do was go up and down they hold up fine. Problem is when they wrap up from the engine torque or reverse when you hit the brakes, it works the spring right next to the rear end perches. That's where they break most of the time. Good springs come double wrap on the main leaf eye so breakage behind the front hanger is minimized.
This is what led to the development of the two link kits that come in our 16" rear wheel travel kits. I spent a lot of time figuring out two points that stayed the same measure up and down for 18" of wheel travel using stock leaf spring mounting and stock shackles. Now I have a traction bar that follows the rear end geometry and keeps the spring from wrap up under power ! I get hundreds of hours of use out of a set of springs now ! Now some wonderful things happen. Wheel hopping is minimized because the shocks are controlling the rebound now instead of the torque reaction of wrap up under power. Spring breakage from hard wrap up is now eliminated. Spring arch is maintained for longer intervals.

I realize that this picture is not of a Bronco but I just could not get any decent pictures under the truck. This is an actual rear frame section of a Bronco showing the Autofab rear 16" travel kit. This shows an excellent shot of our unique 2-Link for wrap up control ! Simple looking but believe me there is a lot of time figuring out where those 2 pivot points are that stay the same measure through the travel.

Here is a nice front view of the rear 16" travel kit showing the detail of our shock configuration. Every fabricated part is bolted to your frame with no welding on the frame required ! The lower shock mounts locate next to the existing shock mount bolting through two shocks at the same time. This mount will require welding to the rear end housing when complete.

New! We now offer up to 18 inches of rear wheel travel with our single 2.5 inch diameter shock setup. Designed for the Sway Away 2.5  racing shock with 12 inch stroke the shock mounts to the stock rear end lower mounts. We provide a  bolt in cross member similar in design to the one above but fabricated to accept the larger bore shocks using one per wheel. Fox and King shocks can be use also but you need to order them with the one inch shorter shaft end. We can help you with shock orders also.

The Autofab rear suspension kit for the 1980 to 1996 Bronco consists of, one pair of custom leaf springs, a 2-Link kit, shock mount structure  and a pair of limit straps. Current price $2300
