Chevy and GMC Bolt-in Steering Box Brace Kit and Frame Repair kit

The 1973-1987 Chevy and GMC trucks, Blazers, Jimmys, and Suburbans had a serious problem of frame flex and cracking in the steering box area. This problem is compounded with the addition of a lift and bigger tires. For more than 40 years Autofab has been producing the Steering Box Gusset Kit (SBGK) to repair this issue. Damaged frames will need to have the cracks repaired and holes restored to the proper size before installation. Other companies have designed plates that just cover the damaged area instead of fixing the problem in the first place. We do not recommend the use of these plates to make the frame section “thicker” we have not have had good results with this kind of reinforcements, as they tend to cause cracking around the reinforcements. Our unique bracket bolts to the inside of the steering box through the frame and stabilizes the area by transferring the steering force into the cross member underneath the radiator. If you would like more information about the repair kit or its installation, please contact us by phone or email. We have kits for both 2 and 4 wheel drive trucks and our SBGK kits come with all necessary hardware for installation. We make frame repair kits for the following trucks: 1973-1987 Chevy and GMC Trucks, up to 1991 Blazers and Jimmys, Suburbans. Primarily straight axle leaf spring 4×4 only.
